High-quality products may earn recognition, but recognition doesn’t always translate to popularity. Fame needs a launchpad — and that launchpad is visibility.
In tourism, fairs are that launchpad — platforms that showcase destinations, traditions, and regional strengths through conferences, exhibitions, and networking events. And in Peru, no event captures this essence better than the “Peru Regiones” Fair, a powerful driver of domestic tourism.
The latest edition was held on Tuesday, January 24, at the José Antonio Deluxe Hotel in Miraflores, Lima. Its mission? To spotlight regional tourism from Peru’s Central and Northern Highlands and promote these zones as must-visit destinations for 2017.

🎯 Led by Experts, Driven by Vision
The fair was backed by Canatur (the National Chamber of Tourism), which is spearheading a strategic action plan to boost local travel. Canatur views this fair as a key initiative to promote travel within Peru — especially during high-demand seasons such as Carnival and Holy Week.
Through press conferences, travel packages, and cultural showcases, the fair spotlighted the rich traditions, gastronomy, and natural beauty of regions such as:
Huancavelica, Junín, Cajamarca, Huánuco, Lima, Ancash, Ayacucho, and Pasco.
By drawing attention to these areas, Canatur aims to not only drive tourist visits to lesser-known destinations, but also encourage Peruvians to explore their own country more deeply.
📈 Building on Past Success
In 2016, Canatur launched “Peru Regiones: Sun and Pisco”, a fair focused on promoting the southern coast (Cañete, Paracas, Ica, Nazca). That event drew 28 major tourism businesses and generated over 200,000 soles in sales, highlighting the commercial potential of such showcases.
At that edition, key tourism authorities — including the Vice Minister of Tourism, PromPerú’s director, and Canatur’s president Fredy Gamarra — emphasized the economic and cultural power of domestic tourism.
“National holidays are golden opportunities for local travel. We expect Peruvians to plan getaways and explore more of our country’s treasures,” stated Gamarra.
🤝 Tourism as a National Priority
The current government, under President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, has shown strong commitment to tourism as a strategic sector. The collaboration between the public and private sectors continues to strengthen regional economies and unlock Peru’s vast travel potential.
By putting regional destinations in the spotlight, “Peru Regiones” is helping rewrite the country’s tourism narrative — from global wonder Machu Picchu to local gems waiting to be discovered.
💬 Final Thought
Efforts pay off. Year after year, Peru is steadily becoming one of Latin America’s most solid and dynamic tourism powerhouses.
