Meet the Turtles of El Ñuro
Just 23 kilometers south of Máncora, in the Talara province of Piura, lies the beach town of El Ñuro, surrounded by desert and cooled by the endless Pacific Ocean. Here, visitors can swim alongside sea turtles in their natural habitat—an experience both magical and unforgettable.
Why are the turtles here? Local fishing boats often leave behind scraps of fish, attracting large numbers of turtles who return daily to feed. Over time, this peaceful interaction between humans and turtles has become a highlight for tourists from Peru and abroad.

A Rare Species, A Rare Opportunity
There are only seven species of sea turtles left in the world, divided into hard-shell and soft-shell families. Peru is home to five of those seven—making this a truly exceptional place to witness them up close.

Around 30 trained guides are on hand to assist all visitors, offering warm welcomes and insightful explanations about the turtles and their ecosystem.
Life jackets are provided, and lifeguards are present throughout every swimming session.
The turtles are trained to remain calm around humans. A dedicated trainer ensures the animals are safe, gentle, and won’t pose any threat to visitors.
