In recent years, Peru has seen a remarkable rise in tourism, capturing the attention of the world with its awe-inspiring attractions. Europe has taken notice, leading to unprecedented collaborations and direct flight connections between the two continents.
Spain, for example, has established strong ties with Peru through direct flights operated by Iberia, and has proudly hosted the acclaimed FITUR tourism fair, where Peru was honored as a featured guest.
France has also highlighted Peru’s diverse offerings in travel documentaries and television features.
But now, a groundbreaking move comes from Belgium, where officials at Brussels Airport are working on establishing a direct flight route to Lima — a landmark initiative that would mark the first direct air connection between Belgium and any South American country.

✈️ Talks in Progress
According to Peru’s Trade Office in Brussels (OCEX Brussels), initial talks have taken place between Brussels Airport authorities and senior executives at Avianca and LATAM Airlines.
Negotiations are also underway with the Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, as well as key players from the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR).
🇵🇪 Why Is This Project Taking Off?
There are four key drivers behind this promising new route:
Passenger Demand
Over 20,000 passengers travel from Belgium to Peru annually — most having to rely on stopovers or travel by land to airports in Paris or Amsterdam. A direct connection is long overdue.Peru’s Booming Tourism
With world-class destinations like Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca, and a growing adventure and culinary scene, Peru has become a bucket list destination for travelers across Europe.Strategic Geographic Location
Brussels offers optimal positioning for connecting to Northern Europe, with efficient links to France, Germany, and the Netherlands.Boosting Trade and SMEs
The route would not only serve tourists — it would also strengthen air cargo logistics for agricultural and aquaculture exports and open up European markets for Peruvian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
🌎 A Strategic Leap for Peru
This proposed air route is not just about convenience. It’s a clear indicator that Peru is becoming a key player in the global tourism and trade scene. From its diverse landscape and rich history to its globally acclaimed gastronomy, Peru has elevated its international presence thanks to:
Strong public-private partnerships
Ongoing investment in infrastructure
Consistent cultural promotion
Exceptional service and hospitality
And, above all, its people.
With this initiative, Peru’s commitment to growth, innovation, and global collaboration continues to shine.
